Predators Among Us

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Like animals in the wild, sexual predators hunt their prey. They stalk the weak, the sick, the vulnerable. Animals in the wild kill their prey for sustenance. Sexual predators kill the souls of innocent children for their own amusement.

It is unnerving to me to realize

I had been hunted, stalked...

He had all the power.

I had none.

This Catholic priest, this pastor of a church, this man who portrayed himself as God's representative, the only way to God, had destroyed all chances this seven-year-old little girl had of enjoying any semblance of a normal, productive life. He banished me into a cold, dark abyss that I would spend the rest of my life trying to survive.

The predators, the priests who abused me, were masters of disguise.

These imposters skillfully fulfilled the expectations parishioners had of them. They appeared to be holy, prayerful men who had committed their live to God. Displaying great, charismatic charm, parishioners would flock to them and gush their, "Good mornings" or a brief clip of the lastest family news. These men were masters at convincing people they were worthy of their trust. To the the public eye, these priests embodied everything that was good. But lurking just beneath that facade was an evil force.

A very evil force.

A force whose sole purpose was the calculated destruction of many young lives. Even though their names have appeared in the news and are acknowledged on the ***Archdiocese of Baltimore's list of credibly accused priests, many people are unable to grasp that these "holy men of God" were capable of performing such licentious deeds.

It is not my intension to destroy the Catholic Church. And certainly not to cause embarrassment to the families of these men.

This is my story. It would not have happened if all involved, up to and including the Popes, would have done what God had entrusted them to do. Foster the spiritual lives of those who come to them. Instead, for many, they have not only alienated survivors from the Catholic Church, they have alienated them from God.
